Happy birthday Prakash Raj: Did you know that the Singham actor has the most National Awards in the country?

The National Award is by far the highest honour in the country. Unlike the numerous magazine, channel and other God-knows-what-pre-decided awards in the country, the National Award actually holds a lot of prestige and is extremely difficult to get your hands on. So much so that some of India’s most marvelous male actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Dharmendra, Thalapathy Vijay, Jr. NTR, Vijay Sethupatji, Sunny Deol, Govinda, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Rajkumar Rao and many others have never won it as have several eminent actresses like Rekha and Madhuri Dixit and numerous great filmmakers both past and present such as Raj Khosla, Vijay Anand, Rajkumar Santoshi, Rajkumar Hirani and Neeraj Pandey. Now, what if were to tell you that as tough as it may be, there’s an actor who has won more National Awards than Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Mammootty. We’re talking about the immensely talented Prakash Raj, and today, on his birthday, let’s check out his National Award wins, which place him above myriad legendary actors in the country.

The Singham actor has won a total of five National Awards. Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan are next with four each while Mammootty has three to his name. Only Mohanlal is tied with Prakash Raj, also having bagged five of these awards over his illustrious career. Coming back to Raj, the polyglot has won each of his National Awards across five categories — Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Film, Special Jury Award and Special Mention.
